Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Goodness, I just love my students so much, where do I even begin? I am the 8th grade math teacher to a group of about 120 boys and girls at a charter school in El Cajon, California (San Diego county). El Cajon is in the unique position of being one of the top three cities in the United States where Iraqi Chaldeans have settled in recent years, having immigrated for the safety of their families.
I am constantly amazed by the work ethic my students show daily.
Every single one of my students this year strives to be better at math than they were the day before. I'm so excited to introduce this project as a tool to help them continue to do even better!
My Project
I am always looking for ways to differentiate instruction. Using tools such as IXL and MobyMax, which offer specialized lessons and practice geared to students' individual levels, are especially useful when my students are studying a topic where their range of knowledge is vast.
With dedicated Chromebooks in our classroom, students can get individualized instruction in exactly what they need.
My plan is to use the Chromebooks for students who are behind, or have been absent, to catch up on the skills we've been working on. With IXL and MobyMax, I can track student progress and better assess my students who struggle in math.
Along with helping struggling students, these Chromebooks will also serve a purpose for my more advanced students. These students will have the opportunity to use IXL and MobyMax to further their studies by going deeper into the material and creating links to other concepts in the mathematics curriculum.
