We are pressed for lab space due to an increase in student population and would love to open the door for inspiration.
We are a 9-12 high school of choice.
All of our students have chosen to come to our school to focus on their academics as we have a limited selection of extracurricular activities. Many of our students come from low income families. Our school has increased over the years and now we are bursting at the seams with students eager to learn and prepare for the next phase in their lives. Our students come into a science center where all levels of science can be found in one room. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and collaboratively on homework and lab experiences. We have 2 labs available for all of the classes to utilize in a rotating fashion. This limits us to offering very few live lab experiences.
My Project
We are requesting 7 Chromebooks in hopes of opening the world to our students. Many of our students are allowed only the experiences that we provide for observing natural phenomenon in the classroom as well as around our school. We would like to use the vast resources found online for virtual lab experiences as well as virtual field trips into areas that they may never see in their lifetimes. We hope that these experiences that we provide for them begins to open their minds to broader opportunities that they can use to further their education and well as broaden their focus for the world around them. We would also like to use the ease of Google Docs as a peer collaboration tool to gather lab data from other areas of the country and to increase science literacy with the students here.
