Although our school is one of the oldest in the city, we do our best to make it a clean, vibrant learning environment for our students. This year my classroom is "home" to 26 amazing fourth graders who love school and learning. They come from various backgrounds and many different countries. All qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My students are economically and culturally diverse, and each comes with their own story. Academically, my students have a wide range of abilities and learning styles. Together, they work hard, cooperatively, and always reach for the stars.
They are our future ambassadors, scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers...These students are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.
They are my crew and I want to be sure they have the tools they need to reach those goals.
My Project
For today's students, technology should be non-negotiable. Not only does it address various learning styles, it makes learning fun and keeps students engaged. Access to computers for all students is essential and plays an integral part in any educational program. Chromebooks are an excellent tool for this. Our classroom has some, but not enough to give all children everyday access. Throughout the day, students work independently or in small groups to practice skills and/or complete self-directed learning and inquiry projects. In addition, students are publishing written work, and reinforcing skills through online based research programs in reading and math.
Chromebooks also allow more students access to individually prescribed programs based on his or her needs.
Students in our school have access to both, an online for research-based reading and math program. They are able to self-pace, get online tutorials, and monitor their progress while reinforcing and enriching their skills.
These Chromebooks will help my students build confidence, develop skills, conduct research, and master the core standards they are expected to learn. We need these Chromebooks to be successful and to give everyone access. Technology is engaging and makes learning fun. Help keep my students motivated by supplying these much-needed Chromebooks.
