My students need 7 Chromebooks in order to bridge their technology and literacy skills which will make them competitive in this ever-changing, quickly-evolving, and technology-driven age.

My students come from a school where 60% of the population receives free and reduced lunch. The students have all types of experiences, and it all adds to the culture of the school. At a school a little shy of 900 students, the school is busting at the seams.
My amazing 7th graders come from many different backgrounds, and they're eager to make difference.
Many of the students are bilingual thanks to our Immersion program which some of them have been involved in since kindergarten. They are driven to do well although there are obstacles - like any rural school - that stand in their way.
In order to survive in this technology-driven world, my students need the opportunity to learn and grow their skills. It is critically important that students are given the opportunity to learn how technology amplifies their learning in all of their courses. My goal as an English/Language Arts teacher is to teach my students how to use technology for the purpose of gathering, analyzing, and presenting information in a variety of formats.
Having Chromebooks will allow my students to take full advantage of online programs and curricula which will aid in teaching them the skills necessary to effectively communicate - through gathering, analyzing, and presenting information - outside of our four walls.
My students have been immersed in English/Language Arts standards which have only been enhanced by the inclusion of technology. Through Google's Applied Digital Skills curriculum, my students have learned about fake news and how to avoid it, they have learned how to do HTML coding to send messages in their online documents amongst other things. Having the Chromebooks in the classroom will open so many more doors for them.
I'm excited for them to learn skills in 7th grade that I didn't learn until I became an adult. I'm hopeful this will give them a leg up in a competitive world that is ever-changing.
