Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our school, we strive to always be "Charging Forward" and maintain a growth mindset, even on the toughest days. Teachers and students alike work daily to remember our core values; a Charger is collaborative, honorable, open-minded, a leader, a learner, and an achiever. I teach General Education 8th grade Social Studies, Community Service, and a Girls Engineering Class.
Approximately 700 unique 7th and 8th graders attend our school.
We are a diverse population with a variety of backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and academic strengths. Seventy-four percent of our students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch, 1 in 7 of our students receives special education services, and 16 different languages are spoken on our campus. While every student is one-of-a-kind, all students share the desire and enthusiasm to experience their education through current technology tools. Many of our students come from technology-poor environments and it has become clear that it is the school's responsibility to support students in becoming ready for the technology requirements of higher education and the workplace.
My Project
The Chromebooks will provide opportunity and open doors to new ideas for my students involving citizenship around the world, connecting the past with today's current events and their lives, applying skills in research, science and technology, and perceiving communities in need beyond themselves. It enables these students historical and present events, people, innovation and need at a fast pace they can be motivated and excited about. It would promote a growth mind set (In which i teach) and the endless possibilities (Their goals and learning) at their fingertips.
Furthermore, this technology will prepare them for high school, college and the real world by giving them hands on experience on how to become a productive member of our society.
