Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything!
In my class, every student was evacuated from their home with the uncertainty of whether the Santa Rosa firestorm would take their home away.
Our community suffered many losses and two of my students lost their homes. Every student came back with stories to tell and found that school was a safe place to be. They also returned with new behaviors and anxieties so I am exploring many different resources to encourage ways to deal with the anxiety and continue our learning journey.
I teach at a Title I school in California where 98 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food from the local pantry for their families. The school is the center of the multi-culture, diverse community providing support and resources. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can to be successful!
My Project
My wonderful students have seen and experienced so much since the wildfires. Their families struggle to rebuild their lives in a community that is healing. The Chromebook will be a resource students can use to explore different resources and to reinforce skills taught in the classroom.
Technology is so important in today's world and my students need to be able to access it.
We love to try out coding, wildlife websites, typing programs, math and reading skill boosters and project creators. Right now, we share a few Chromebooks in the classroom. These will help us reach our goal of one to one!
