Chromebooks to Help Develop Academic Independence and Confidence
Help me give my students Samsung Chromebooks to provide them with the opportunity to do all the things that will make successful in this 21st century learning environment, increasing their work independence as well as academic confidence.
My students are, freshman, enrolled in a Southern Connecticut high school. Our school is a large public school, with nearly 2700 students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with many of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the Southern Connecticut.
The students I am primarily involved with, are extremely creative and have varying levels of independence, many of whom are on the spectrum.
They all have a thirst for knowledge, wanting to expand their horizons. Everyday is a chance to learn something new and everyday we strive to make sure that students feel important, supported, challenged and included within the larger school community.
Technology allows for students of all abilities, access to academic success. Students are able to create artistic masterpieces with design websites, draft persuasive and informational essays, have access to text that might otherwise be unavailable as well as programs to help them develop real world math skills, such as personal fiance.
With each student having access to their own Chromebook those worlds will be open to them in ways that might not be available to them otherwise.
My students will have the opportunity to work at their own pace developing a solid foundation of the skills that they will need to become active members of this 21st century community.
