Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is a 2nd grade dual language (English-Mandarin) class of about 23 students in District 1 in Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Most of my students come from low-income families and my school is a Title I school. Many of them receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
Despite the many challenges they face, such as little food at home, my students are always so smiley, so kind, thoughtful, and so generous.
They will save their snacks and surprise me by leaving snacks such as an apple, a banana, or a pack of cranberries on my desk! Their words, "You need brain food!" make my heart melt! They are intelligent, fun loving, creative, and spontaneous.
I am looking to provide my students with hands-on, fun, and meaningful learning experiences. I need your help to make that possible.
My Project
We were so lucky to get our 1st Chromebook project fully funded and have been using the 4 Chromebooks we received to access playcodemonkey and other coding sites to learn coding, as well as going onto educational websites to learn.
We now need 6 more Chromebooks to add on to the existing 4 Chromebooks we got from DonorsChoose so we can have 6 more Chromebooks for my 22 students to share and access Google Classroom.
Recently we started our Computer Club during recess time. I'm introducing Google Classroom to my students to get them to collaborate and do class projects as well as learn how to create Google slides. I'm also hoping to teach my students how to use Google apps to create movies and PSAs.
In order to do these fun paperless projects, we need more equipment. Please help! Many thanks!
