Ms. Chaney from Orlando FL is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Chromebooks to enhance their learning in reading and math through programs such as I-Ready and Accelerated Reader.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are enthusiastic learners who come to school ready to take in the day's educational adventures. Most of my students come from low income families, so the majority of the items (ranging from basic school supplies to books to facial tissues and more) are supplied by me.
Not only is our school inner-city, it is a home; a home where we foster literacy and learning while having fun.
Instruction is rigorous and the students are held accountable for their learning. Teachers and students build solid and rewarding relationships built on respect and the understanding that we are a team and our one focus is the students.
My class consists of eighteen second graders who come to school ready to learn, but not always prepared. I often supply them with basic school supply needs. Most of the books they have access to, come from my personal classroom library.
I am requesting six Chromebooks that will be used for a variety of different purposes. However, there is one over all goal I am confident incorporating technology into the classroom will achieve - reading and mathematical success rates will increase. I have been fortunate to have 6 Chromebooks funded through Donor's Choose and am hoping to create a class set of Chromebooks. My students, most of whom come from homes that do not have computers or internet access, will love having a 1-on-1 computer to student ratio.
My school is a Title I school, and unfortunately the budget for technology is extremely limited.
Most of the budget is spent providing materials to fulfill the basic needs of our students, such as clothes and school supplies (pencils, backpacks, etc.)
The two main programs students will use on the Chromebooks are I-Ready and Accelerated Reader. I-Ready is an online math and reading program that is proven to increase results in those academic areas if used for at least 45 minutes a week. My students are currently unable to achieve their minutes due to the lack of computers available to them.
Accelerated Reader is a program where students take quizzes on books they have read. The purpose of this program is to increase engagement in reading. My students absolutely love Accelerated Reader, but their usage is limited due to lack of working computers.
The six Chromebooks I am requesting would be an amazing learning tool for under privileged children to use to engage them in the learning process and increase their learning achievements.
