I am teaching future health care workers who could one day possibly be your doctor, nurse, home health aide, respiratory therapist, medical biller and coder, etc. These 16-18 year olds are interested in careers in the health field, and each day in my Health Science class, they are discovering their passion.
My goal is to prepare future healthcare workers with the skills and attitudes necessary to be an outstanding employee upon graduation from secondary and post-secondary education.
These students are truly the 'cream of the crop' and I learn from them as much as they are learning from me daily! However, we live in a district where there are not a lot of funds to supply the technology tools necessary to excel in today's classroom. All students in our district receive free breakfast and lunch, and the option to receive a reduced-priced dinner. Please help me encourage my bright students by showing them how we believe in their abilities and their future!
My Project
What if you had the opportunity to change the trajectory of a teenager's future? The truth is, you do! As a Registered Nurse for the past 14 years, last year I felt called to do just that. I made the decision to leave the bedside of mainly elderly patients to enter a classroom of 16-18 year olds who were enrolled in a Career and Technology class called Health Science. However, I was shocked to see that compared to area schools, we seem to lack necessary tools such as laptops (a staple in medicine) in the classroom. Health Science teaches anatomy and physiology, disease processes, legal and ethical issues in health care, medical terminology, communication and teamwork skills, as well as skills such as CPR, first aid, medical assistant and CNA skills. Our goal is to prepare future healthcare workers with the skills and attitudes necessary to be an outstanding employee upon graduation from secondary and post-secondary education. With new medical discoveries being made daily, it is impossible to keep up without having access. Therefore, I am asking you to consider donating towards obtaining Chromebooks for each of my students to use in class. My students and I appreciate each and every donation!
