My Students
My students are an amazing group of diverse kindergartners.
They attend a Title I school in North Carolina where 100% receive free lunch and breakfast.
Many of our children have limited exposure to anything outside of their neighborhoods. However, they are sponges just wanting to have the opportunity to soak up everything available to them. They are very inquisitive about the world and how things work. That is why we need to provide them with every opportunity available to help them learn about the world we live in, not just their neighborhood.
My Project
Try to remember the first time you played a game on your computer or a tablet. Did you get the feeling of this is so cool?! Many of my students have never experienced that feeling. Therefore, I would like to provide them with that feeling in kindergarten. I want them to see that technology is an amazing way to learn our math objectives while having fun.
I teach 21 super kindergarten students at a Title I school in North Carolina.
100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Although our county has one of the highest unemployment rates in our state, our families want their children to get the very best education possible. They know education will make the difference. Even though my children face much opposition in their lives, they come to school every day with giant smiles on their faces and an eagerness to learn.
We currently have two desktop computers that may or may not work on any given day, not to mention that most kids are use to touchscreens and have a very difficult time using a mouse. That is why I am requesting 3 touchscreen Chromebooks for students to use daily to practice our math objectives using MobyMax. This program allows the children to practice our math objectives at their individual level. While some kids may be counting others will be doing addition/subtraction problems. These Chromebooks will provide my children with a way to practice their Math objectives daily instead of just on computer lab days. Since we started using this program my children get very excited about the math objectives they master. To them they are just having fun while playing a game to get points. However I see a love for learning and an increase in their math proficiency.
