Hello, I am the librarian at a middle school in California. I have learned over my three years as librarian at our school that my students are fascinated with reading and excited by the opportunity to do amazing things in the Library.
We are a small middle school with 290 wonderful and amazing students.
74% of my students come from lower-income families and qualify for free or reduced lunches. My library has no budget for new materials. The only funds I can use to buy books and technology for my students come from fundraising. My students deserve every opportunity to learn everything they need to succeed regardless of their socioeconomic status in our world. I want them to read books that open their minds, broaden their perspectives and educate them about the bright opportunities that are available to them for their futures.
My Project
Your donation will enable me to buy six Chromebooks to be used in the library and are essential to my students' success at school.
Many of my students do not have a computer at home and are not able to get to the Public Library to use a computer.
My students often fall behind in class, if they can't turn in their homework on time. Some of my students try to write papers for school on their phones, which is very difficult and ineffective. The opportunity to use Chromebooks in the library is the only chance many students have to type a paper and/or research a paper.
We are not a one to one technology school. Computers are the present and the future. Helping my student write papers and learning to use "Word", "Google docs", "Drop-box" and other technology is vital to their success in middle school, high school and beyond.
