Ms. Roach from Orlando FL is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Chromebooks to enhance their learning in reading and math through programs such as I-Ready, Accelerated Reader and Imagine Learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach in low income, Title I elementary school located in heart of Orlando, Florida, where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We also have a high population of students that are English Speakers of other Languages; these students are working hard to transition into their new home and school environment. Despite the multiple hardships and struggles some these students face daily, they come to school eager to learn and excited to be the best they can be! My students are limited on resources provided to help them learn at their own homes, so I feel it is extremely important that I try to provide as many resources and opportunities to help them grow.
I am requesting five Chromebooks that will be used for a variety of different purposes. However, there is one over all goal I am confident incorporating technology into the classroom will achieve - reading and mathematical success rates will increase.
Most of the budget is spent providing materials to fulfill the basic needs of our students, such as clothes and school supplies (pencils, backpacks, etc.)The two main programs students will use on the Chromebooks is I-Ready and Accelerated Reader. I-Ready is an online math and reading program that is proven to increase results in those academic areas if used for at least 45 minutes a week. My students are currently unable to achieve their minutes due to the lack of computers available to them.
Accelerated Reader is a program where students take quizzes on books they have read. The purpose of this program is to increase engagement in reading. My students absolutely love Accelerated Reader, but their usage is limited due to lack of working computers.
Imagine Learning is a computer based program targeting students who have recently moved from other countries and are new to learning the English language.
The five Chromebooks I am requesting would be an amazing learning tool for under privileged children to use to engage them in the learning process and increase their learning achievements.
