Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are dual language learners, succeeding and being efficient in both English and Spanish! They are eager to learn and always up for new and exciting challenges. Their families are supportive and want the best for their kids but don't always have the resources or educational requirement to help when kids need it most.
Math is an area that is particularly challenging for my students & I am determined to make this year pivotal in their math growth.
I have a strong background in mathematics and I feel up to the challenge to help my students get to where they need to be and beyond. The school is located in one of Chicago's southside neighborhoods. The school is a low-income, Title I charter school and provides dual language instruction for predominantly Latino students K-8. While the school has some technological resources, it is not nearly enough to meet the needs.
My Project
There is an ever growing need for technology in school and in our surrounding world. Since my students don't have adequate access to Chromebooks, I'd like to get 6 of them to help with our current math curriculum focusing on differentiation of instruction. This would help me create math centers where students are able to work on a Chromebook and access a math support program that individualizes each student's needs based on their standardized test scores.
Engaging students in differentiated work with Chromebooks would be an enormous boost for our math curriculum.
It would allow me to have direct instruction with one group, while another is independently working with their Chromebooks. It will provide exposure to other math programs beyond what I can supply within the classroom.
Our school's mission is to empower the whole child to thrive in a complex, interconnected and changing world. I believe that using this new technology ties directly into our school's mission and would make a huge difference in my students' education.
