Some might think that with Apple headquarters literally within view of my school that technology would be well funded and available. Sadly it is not. You can help make it possible for students to have access everyday to the world of the web.
Students in my school and my 6th grade class come from a variety of backgrounds.
They come to school eager to learn and are interested in the lessons I plan for math and social studies. They love the world of the web, and they clamor for any activity where they can explore and discover on their own.
My students achievement levels vary considerably, some are clearly many grade levels below, while I have others who are demonstrating talent well beyond 6th grade. It is my hope that using computers in my classroom more frequently will help me differentiate lessons to the different learners and learning styles in my class.
My Project
Chromebooks represent an ideal solution to the problem of Internet access at my school. They are inexpensive and easy to use for most students. Since all they have is access to the web, they will be free to devote their time to work on the assignments and projects we do in class rather than hunting around for apps. Chromebooks are also very easy to manage since they automatically update themselves. Having a limited number of them in my classroom can still be effective since they allow multiple users to sign on to a single computer. That means that students in my 1st period class can work on them, and when my 3rd period students arrive, they will never have to deal with the projects, assignments, of the other student who used the computer before them. Students will have private access and their work will be only for their eyes and mine. Finally, the chromebooks will also be a perfect fit for my school because we already use Google Apps for Education.
You can have a dramatic effect on a school and a student population with your contribution to this project.
While some might say that students in Cupertino live in a community with resources, our district is one of the lowest funded in Santa Clara county and in the state of California. Our students need help too.
