My students need Chromebooks to keep up with technology demands beyond high school. Most of my students do not have internet access at home and rely on my classroom for all academic online needs.
My name is Terri Armstrong. I am the English department head of a small 4A high school in Caldwell, Texas. My department consists of four other teachers covering subjects English 1,2,3,4 as well as PreAP 1,2 and AP 3,4. A unique characteristic about my department is that due to district requirements that students take 4 years of English, my department services every student in the school. Our students come from all walks of life and truly see our school as a family and community gathering place.
We are primarily a rural community with most kids coming from farming and ranching families.
The majority of students are lower socio-economic "at risk" kids that depend on the school for many things from breakfast/lunch to clothes and school supplies that come from our community "stuff the bus" campaign at the beginning of each school. The majority of students participate in multiple sports teams as well as seeking membership in a variety of clubs such as FFA, FCA, FCCLA, BPA just to name a few.
My students are the best students because despite any setbacks they encounter at home, they know they can come to school and find their individuality and success.
My Project
Chromebooks will make the ultimate difference in my classroom because the days of pen and paper are quickly fading.
Students "know" technology but I see it as my charge to direct them beyond a "gaming" mindset and discover all the wonderful tools there are for learning.
I just learned about hyperdocs and plan on using and creating them regularly.
Differentiation is the eternal buzzword in teacher circles and what better way to offer different learning opportunities than through a tool such as the Chromebook. We are a Google campus so these computers will be ready to go. Please help us!
