Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Education must provide the opportunities for self-fulfillment; it can at best provide a rich and challenging environment for the individual to explore, in his own way.” Noam Chomsky. Many of my learners are independent thinkers with an enthusiasm for learning despite individual challenges.
My school is a Title I school serving just under 800 students.
I have the pleasure of working with students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The primary focus of the classroom is reading, writing, and math instruction. My students demonstrate perseverance and a desire to learn despite disabilities that create challenges and make access to traditional curriculum that much harder. Early identification paired with interventions that engage and meet individual needs of students makes the difference. Often individual needs can be met with computer assisted programs intervening in reading and math. We work towards mainstreaming students into general education classes with strategies and tools that allow access to grade level instruction.
My Project
The rapid changes in our world require students to be literate in navigating technology at a very young age. Technology touches just about every part of their lives and should be an integral part of their learning too. The Chromebooks will allow my students the opportunity to engage with the technology learning and using 21st Century skills. I hope to integrate the Chromebooks into my daily lesson using the technology to explore and create. Students engage when they are excited about learning and access to technology will help motivate and support individual interests of my learners. The Chromebooks will also enhance our new writing program. Students will have in-class opportunities to type and publish their stories. Increasing student access to technology is exciting. I hope you find my students deserving of this generous opportunity.

Access to the technology will support not only academic growth in reading and mathematics but will help develop computer literacy in my learners.
