My co-teachers and I are lucky to teach 150 wonderful students. What makes our job challenging is that each of these students learns differently, behaves differently, has a different level of comfort in class, and has different challenges and goals. Many of our students are challenged by disabilities like speech impairments, learning disabilities, physical impairments and ADHD. They have different interests and are engaged by different things.
These laptops allow us to integrate STEM activities into our ELA classroom, infusing literacy with technology and engaging our students in new and interesting ways.
Our students are able to delve into our Teen Activism unit, researching different ways to change the world and developing presentations that allow them to promote their vision.
Ensuring that our students become fluent writers is dependent on having the supplies to do so. We have been lucky enough to have 25 laptops funded by Donors Choose and our goal is to get a full class set.
My Project
Many people associate STEM with Math and Science only but STEM can make literacy come alive for our students.
We use technology paired with non-fiction and scientific texts, engaging computer games that allow students to design and execute presentations, and other technology driven lessons to allow our students to gain a deeper understanding of literacy and STEM.
Our students research teen activism and how they can become activists that address real world problems through their writing. They have developed programs to address pollution and waste.
We have been lucky enough to get 20 laptops through Donors Choose and are dedicated to fulfilling more to ensure that our entire class has the ability to individually apply what we've discussed in class. Please help us fulfill this goal! We are so grateful!
