I teach a wonderfully diverse group of second graders at a public school in Rancho Cordova, California.
Each day my students amaze me with their creativity and unique learning styles.
They work hard all year to become avid readers, competent writers, and collaborative problem solvers. They enjoy using math tools to model and solve complex problems, and spend their free time writing their own original books and stories so that they can share them with our class. I am so proud of their hard work and ingenuity!
In a world that is more and more dependent on technology, we do our best as teachers to help our students keep up. Our students are tasked with learning how to navigate through educational websites and to take online assessments by the end of third grade. As a second grade teacher, I would like to give my students more practice in working with Chromebooks so that they will be better prepared for what is to come in future years.
There are many advantages to having a classroom that is set up for the 21st century.
Students can more easily access our curriculum if we have a dedicated set of computers for small group workshop time. They will also have more access to taking reading comprehension tests for our Scholastic Reading Counts program. Finally, they will have better access to Google Classroom and sites to do research for our many writing projects.
