Imagine having a mobile laptop lab so that every classroom has access to technology for innovative projects. Our school recently received a generous donation for a laptop cart from community members and the Gates Foundation, but we need fast, new Chromebooks to fill the cart!
Our school serves 550 students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Students at our school come from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds and have a range of experience using technology at home and in the classroom. While our students are in the heart of Silicon Valley, the technology we use is quite outdated. Students at our school love to learn, and their eyes light up when they use technology. They constantly ask to use computers for classroom projects, but even when we pool our laptops together, we do not have enough for a class set.
My Project
Our school needs a set of Chromebooks to help create a mobile lab so more students will have access to technology. Teachers at our school are eager to provide online learning using interactive websites for reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Our primary students work with programs that help them learn to read and develop number sense, while upper grade students access our online social studies curriculum, research informational articles, and work with power point and databases. Having access to a class set of Chromebooks will help students be more adept at using technology, and foster engagement and independence.
Currently, each class can only use our computer lab once per week for 45 minutes. With a set of Chromebooks, teachers at our school can use technology on a regular bases for in-depth learning. This grant will get us halfway to our goal of having a full laptop cart of new Chromebooks for a mobile learning lab.
Having a set of Chromebooks will help more classrooms and students have access to technology throughout the school day.
Your donation will help our staff create more engaging learning opportunities for our students and help our students improve their digital literacy.
