Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All of my children learn Math, Science, Social Studies and Tech from me. We team teach in 4th grade. Although they have similar traits, it is because of those traits that they have diverse backgrounds. Their family struggles are brought to school. However, they will succeed with your help. The introduction of flexible seating in a class that is 100% low socioeconomic and Hispanic, can have an amazing effect on their performance. These students are very energetic and want to be able to have some movement in the class. Some of them have learning difficulties, live in poverty, and all qualify for free lunch. My kids work very hard to overcome all the struggles that they are facing at such a young age. We will overcome the many challenges that they bring from home and outperform the expectations they have of themselves.
My Project
My students need two Chromebooks. The lack of computers in my school came about when Windows XP became unsupported and our district disposed of those computers. Now, we are left with a low amount of tech to which some students have no access. I was lucky when I received a Google Cloud Printer. My students can create some projects on computers, but they won't get to see final results. For example, the "Student Generated Alphabet" would have been a great use for a printer. However, our new cloud ready printer can connect to Chromebooks. My students will be creating a Word Wall on Chromebooks and print. This will be one of the many projects to come.
When I ask a question in my class, there are no wrong answers, but there are learning opportunities.
A student-generated Word Wall will allow students to learn vocabulary by constant exposure with understandable text at their reading level. Taking ownership of this project is an incentive for my students to better learn vocabulary. Especially in math, vocabulary is important to know how to solve problems and the processes thereof.
