I work in a Title I school in a rural community that offers all day every day Kindergarten to all students. My students are five year olds with with extremely varying experiences, knowledge, and abilities. At the beginning of the year many of them were nervous about starting kindergarten. One had never left mom before, one couldn't speak English, one had major anxiety meltdowns, one was homeless and extremely timid, others came having no idea how to hold a pencil or scissors, and some came having attended preschool and were ready to learn.
I am proud to say that all of them now show up with big smiles on their faces every morning and are excited to be there!
We have become a family and our school is our community. In addition to academic goals we emphasize showing respect, demonstrating compassion, and taking responsibility.
My Project
I am requesting this technology addition to my classroom because being able to use Chromebooks (with headphones) will allow my students the opportunity to work independently, though differentiated programs, while I work with small groups.
They will be able to access individualized literacy practice through Istation, individualized math practice through Iready, and listen to stories read to them through Epic.
Many of my students do not have access to technology at home and/or do not have family members that read to them regularly. This technology would be an incredible asset to me and my students and would be greatly appreciated and utilized.
