Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to come to school and excited to learn!
My second grade dual language classes consist of forty diverse learners.
Our Title One campus is made up of over six hundred students. I teach in a community of students from low-income families. Many of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Additionally, thirty-six percent of our population is identified as English Language Learners. Have you ever felt lost because you don't speak or understand the English language? My students face this challenge everyday. Despite their many hardships, my students enter the building each day with a smile on their faces. I want my students to continue to smile!
My Project
My students need two Chromebooks in order to complete learning activities.
Our campus uses Achieve3000 to prepare students for college and career.
On this program, students build reading strength and stamina through close reading of rigorous informational text with targeted scaffolding. The vast majority of these informational texts are nonfiction and use academic language that will benefit students. Students enjoy the text and are thoroughly engaged in meaningful reading practice!
Using the computers will provide them a chance to increase their computer skills and expose them to lessons and activities based on 21st century skills. They will also use the computers for presentations that will allow them to practice collaboration, communication, and creativity.
When students are engaged they are learning.
These Chromebooks will allow me to create in-class projects that offer the students opportunities to explore and learn in an engaging way.
