Imagine yourself a child with amazing ideas that you wish to share with the world, but that world requires you to be able to have a proficient command of spelling rules of the English language and the fine motor skills to legibly write and organize your ideas. On a daily basis, you are expected to produce written work that no one can decipher.
What if the technology existed that could help you break through the barriers to expressing yourself in written form?
I teach special day class for students with mild to moderate disabilities, filled with unique individuals. Their disabilities include students with autism, severe behavior disabilities, ADHD and dyslexia. They each have so much they want to share with me every day. However, scribing on a daily basis and running a classroom can be a challenge. Having access to speech to text devices would enable my students to fully access the curriculum and interact in a meaningful way during their mainstreaming opportunities in the general education setting. Making writing a joy instead of a chore for my students is my primary goal.
