Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Steve Ballmer has said that technology empowers people to be creative and productive. It lets them learn things they didn't think they could. So in a sense it is all about their potential. My goal is have my students realize their potential and creativity. Chromebooks will help reach that goal.
My students attend a diverse public school in an urban area and have a wide range of learning disabilities.
Most of the students in my classes at the high school where I teach come from low-income families and do not have access to the technology and scientific resources some of us take for granted. They also do not have access to the school's limited technology on a regular basis due to lab and library hours. My students are all curious about the world around them and are interested in science. Having the Chromebooks would give them more opportunities to satisfy their curiosity.
My Project
Like others in the country, our school is moving to standards and teaching methods which require more project-based learning and use of technology. The students in my classes also need multiple opportunities to learn concepts. Technology adds another layer of exposure to scientific concepts beyond books, lectures, worksheets, and even hands-on projects. Students will use the Chromebooks for research, to use online simulation and interactive tools, and to study online models. They can will also share and edit reports.
Students will use the Chromebooks to enrich science lessons.
They use a program with excellent pedagogic practices that allow students to explore science concepts through simulations. Current education practice encourages collaboration among students. The Chromebooks will be a tool to use as they to do research for their group projects. There are also numerous adaptive technologies to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities. This will ensure they are college and career ready.
