Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My eighth-grade cluster is made up of students from a wide variety of backgrounds. My students continue to work hard each year and thrive in a learning environment that nurtures creativity.
In my district, over 80% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
This means that many do not have the basic supplies that we take for granted.
Our district is a bring your own device district, which is great, but only 1 or 2 students in each class have a Chromebook of their own to bring to school. If they have a computer at home, and that is a big if, that is a family computer that is shared throughout the home. Projects like this one help provide my classroom with the needed technology and help reduce our carbon footprint.
My Project
Children today need to think about how they can make a difference and help conserve our natural resources. In our district, change is happening slowly, but definitely needs to happen and the kids are often the leaders of that change.
Using Chromebooks, they will reduce the amount of paper being used in the classroom.
For kids today the integration of STEM activities into the traditional classroom is essential. With the implementation of computers in the classroom much of a student’s work can be digital. In my district, the students can bring a device to school, but over 70% of students are on free or reduced lunch, which means their families don't have the funds to buy their child a Chromebook for school.
