Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a special educator, I have worked with students with special needs for my entire career. Students with specific learning disabilities are continually at a disadvantage due to their disability and in the city, the lack of resources, specifically technology, exacerbates the learning gap.
These Chromebooks will be used by students who have reading learning disabilities to help me target their learning needs.
Better access to technology is crucial for them to continue making progress.
We are a Title l school and 86% of students in the school are considered part of the "high needs" population, which includes students with disabilities, English language learners and low income students.
My Project
Working with students with reading disabilities on a daily basis requires technology support. The accommodation of technology turns challenged reader/writers into highly successful learners. Thanks to technology, the impact of a reading/writing disabiity is minmized. Student confidence and success with learning soars.
At our urban school, we have limited access to technology and we lose access entirely for weeks at a time when the computers are used for schoolwide testing.
We can start to close the technology gap if we receive these three Chromebooks for students who have reading disabilities.
