I teach in a Title I school. My students do not have access to a lot of the latest technology at home so I like to provide them with technology experiences in my classroom. I teach the gifted students at my school. These students will one day be the leaders of our community. I truly believe that learning technology is going to be the best way I can prepare them for the 21st-century workplace. Since my students do not have a lot of technology at home, I feel like it is important for me to provide them opportunities to learn technology in my classroom.
My students are smart and capable, and they will definitely be important leaders in the community one day, but they are limited economically.
They do not have devices they can bring from home to work on technology projects at school so I am working on getting more technology in my classroom through resources like DonorsChoose
My Project
I like to incorporate a lot of technology in my gifted classroom because I want my students to be prepared for work after school. Many schools have students bring their own devices from home called BYOD, and other schools purchase a device for each student. However, at my school we have limited classroom computers and my students do not have devices at home that they can bring to school because I teach in a low socioeconomic Title I school.
I am lucky to have 7 computers already in my classroom but I have 24 students.
I would like for my students to be able to do most of their class projects for my class using technology but right now it is not feasible. We do the best we can sharing computers, but it is not ideal. I bring in my personal Chromebook and iPad from home to help out. My hope is that I can keep getting a few more devices each year so that eventually, I will have enough for all my students to have one in the classroom.
