The "Angels of Room 304" are a spunky, loving, creative, imaginative, and energetic group of 3rd graders. They are passionate about reading and learning. My 19 students LOVE technology and are engaged using the computer. In my diverse school district I have students of all backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. In my building we are 100% free breakfast and lunch because we believe students cannot learn if they are hungry. We have limited state and local funding which makes it difficult to get the resources students need to be successful. From chapter books to pencils to construction paper it is supplied by myself. With all the challenge that 8 and 9 years old children face I believe in making learning fun and engaging in my classroom.
My children lack basic background knowledge and experiences that most children have.
They lack exposure to the world outside their community. Most of them have not been out of their hometown let alone out of the state. I am constantly using technology to bring the world to them. Whether I am showing them images of something that is in our reading or a map of the United States technology is essential in all subject areas.
My Project
Technology is a huge push in education and unfortunately my district nor my parents have the resources to provide it for my students. In a district where my students are already at a disadvantage this is just another way they are lagging behind. Due to the low socioeconomic status of my students they lack background knowledge and experiences. All of our state testing is on the computer. Some of my students are amazing writers, but because they don't have the appropriate amount of exposure to computers, their typing skills and technology navigation skills are severely lacking. The state cannot see how intelligent and driven my students are because they have 90 minutes to compose a multi-paragraph essay but it is done entirely on the computer.
By putting the chromebooks at their fingertips you open a new world to them that is beyond their imagination.
This will help prepare them for future state testing, classes, and even their careers. In this technology driven world they are falling even further behind without having Chromebooks as a resource. Thank you for considering my students and their futures when making your decision to donate!
