My school is located in a low socioeconomic area of Southeast Texas. Our school, district, and city was greatly affected by Hurricane Harvey. The start of the school year was delayed by three weeks due to the massive devastation to the area. Some of our students are still displaced or living in gutted homes. Many do not have access to technology resources at home.
Despite the hardships that Hurricane Harvey brought to the area, my 8th Grade Mathematics and Algebra I students are dedicated in their learning and commitment to succeeding.
This school year, they have inspired me with their persistence and positive attitudes. I hope to be able to bring resources to them to help continue their success.
In today's 21st century learning environment, technology has become a key component in effectively engaging students in their learning. Our students today are technology natives who have been surrounded by technology since birth, so it makes sense that education must begin to incorporate technology.
My classroom is requesting two Chromebooks in order to create a classroom environment that is engaging, effective, and is able to become mobile for group engagement and 1:1 interventions.
The resources that my students will be able to access with these Chromebooks will allow for better differentiation within the classroom to aid with individual students' needs.
