My students need the opportunity to work with technology and access the Internet, to learn the most current and up to date science, math, and financial skills, while at the same time developing strong inquiry research and collaborative learning skills.
I have a class of 24 second and third graders at a public school in California.
They are an enthusiastic group of kids who love to learn! Our school is one of the largest schools in the district. Since we are so big it is often challenging to get the funding needed to provide cutting edge materials for all types of learners at just their level.
My Project
As a teacher who embraces instructional technology, I am eager to implement technology and its many educational advantages into my teaching as much as possible. My students need a Chromebook, to facilitate online collaborative inquiry, research, and writing projects. My students also need a Ten Key Number Pad to assist them in learning math facts quickly through a program called Fastmath.
Technology in the classroom provides many advantages. First, students have the chance to interact with the hardware and develop basic awareness and technology skills. Second, students will have access to the Internet, their portal to the world--the possibilities of what they will be able to learn through inquiry and research will be endless! Third, students will learn to collaborate as they work together in mixed-level and heterogeneous groups to synthesize the information they research through platforms such as Google docs, wikispaces, and so many more!
Not only will the Chromebook provide my students with the opportunity to engage with modern technology and the Internet, but they will give my students a platform through which they will build and deepen 21st century skills for reading, researching, inquiring, collaborating, and writing--essential skills as they move on through school and through life.
