My students need tools to develop their skills as problem solvers in a 21st century world. Living out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, students have limited access to resources that support their learning.
Students come from a variety of backgrounds and economic levels.
The school that I teach at is a Title 1 school that services many students that either qualify for free or reduced lunch status. The students are coming into first grade and going to be surprised at all the learning they will be expected to do on a daily basis.
My Project
By having these Chromebooks in the classroom, my students will have access to information more efficiently and will be able to use the tools and skills I teach, enabling for 21st century learning. Ipads also allow students to do learning with technology.
Our school also uses the Lexia Program which is an online web-based Independent Learning System (ILS) with several programs. It is predominantly phonics-based, beginning at initial letter level, and includes a simple comprehension element. Pupils work through a program independently and at their own pace. Having these chromebooks in class will allow more time for learning.
I believe that technology is the 21st Centuries way to "Empowering Students Through Art" because this world uses technology in all arenas of life.
Little babies are now able to do more than just pick up a television remote control and aim it at the television.
Unfortunately, our time in the computer lab is also limited. Having computer time always brings an excitement to the students, but their knowledge of the Internet and how to use it is limited. I have brought in my own personal computers to my classroom for students to use, but those are running on outdated operating systems, and updates are not available.
