Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing children who love to learn. The school district I teach in has one of the highest percentages of English Language Learners (ELLs) in the state of MA. A great majority of my students come from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. They bring a vast array of knowledge and experiences with them to school. Many of my students also come from very low-income households.
In our PreK-2 school, we provide a nurturing environment where students are still held to high expectations.
Students reach our high expectations in different ways, so I want to provide as many different learning opportunities as possible. The chance for my students to use Chromebooks in my classroom would give them a chance to learn about and through technology.
My Project
My students will benefit in multiple ways from having access to Chromebooks. They will be able to use educational apps and websites to further their learning and understanding of our kindergarten standards. As they use and get to know the Chromebooks, they will develop a skill set around using technology. This is important, as some of my students do not have technology at home.
Furthermore, Chromebooks are mobile and easy to use, which will help my students develop a sense of control and independence.
They will be able to choose where in the room they will sit while they use the Chromebooks. Students are often more successful when they feel they have a choice, or control over a situation. I am also excited to foster independence and problem-solving skills as my students learn how to use the Chromebooks.
I look forward to allowing my students the opportunity to grow as readers, mathematicians, problem solvers, and leaders.
