Mrs. Garczynski from Sauk City WI is requesting Technology through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Chromebooks for Future Scientists

My students need Chromebooks that can be used in the classroom to give them regular access to technology to use for projects and interactive science learning tools.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

My Students

If you walk into my classroom on any given day, my students are actively engaged in hands-on learning experiences. There is little direct instruction, because most of our class time is spent experimenting, modeling, and discussing science concepts through inquiry-based methods.

My 8th grade students are looking for more interactive and collaborative ways to learn science and engineering concepts.

There are many online simulations and tools that will help them with this, but we need better access to technology to reach this goal. My students are in middle school, which is a difficult time for many youth. Keeping them engaged in learning without technology can be a challenge, especially since their hobbies often include technology. Our school has many positive attributes, but could use help providing opportunities for students to work with technology as a method for collaboration with peers. So far, my students enjoy science, but that could be enhanced with additional tools to make our classroom more interactive. I believe providing them with consistent access to Chromebooks would close this gap for my students and encourage all students to be engaged in learning science and engineering concepts.

My Project

The students will be using the Chromebooks to learn content online, such as reading scientific articles or current events that relate to what we are doing. They will also be able to access simulations for content that is difficult to model in a classroom. The students will also use the Chromebooks to collaborate on projects and share their discoveries with the larger population of students in the class and around the world. I would love for my students to interact with students from across the globe, and I envision this happening with more consistent access to technology. Being in the 21st century means that students need to learn how to work collaboratively with others via technology to solve problems through critical thinking.

Although the jobs my students will hold in the future may be unimaginable now, I believe this project will help prepare my students for the demands of our advancing society by providing them the opportunity to practice this collaboration and giving them access to the types of tools they may use in the future.
