My Students

My students are special because English is their second language. Yes, I am an "ESL" teacher and my students are "ESL students." My students, in grades K through 5, have an ESL lesson every day with me for 45 minutes. They come from households whose native languages are: Hindi, Gujarati, Mandarin, Spanish, Korean, Urdu, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Marathi, Bengali, and Serbian.

So as you can see, this school is very special.

It is truly very multicultural. They are all very different since they've come from a wide variety of countries. My students are very special because they are learning English as they try to assimilate into our American culture while trying to hold onto their native one. We all get to learn about each other's cultures which only enriches all of our souls!

My Project

There are many educational websites for English Language Learners. So my first Donors Choose project was technology based. I was so fortunate to recently get my very first Donors Choose project fully funded. I have already received 5 Chromebooks and a charging cart in April. The cart can hold up to 12 Chromebooks so my wish is to get 5 more, for a total of 10 Chromebooks. My ESL classroom is small, but my table can seat 10 students and some of my classes have that many students. So it would be wonderful if I had a Chromebook for every student during my 45 minute ESL classes.
