Reading is an important part of the learning process at this grade level.
Here is the make up of the students at my school: ELL (English Language Learners) 26%, free or reduced-price lunch 32%, and Special Education 12%.
The school is an amazing community made up of students, parents and staff. The school atmosphere is like a family. Each student is loved and cared for based on their own individual needs.
My Project
Our school district has enrolled all primary classes in a new reading intervention program called iRead. This program is designed to close the achievement gap before it begins and place ALL K-2 students on a career and college readiness path. This program is a personalized learning tool that assesses and monitors all students reading performance. This is an engaging and supportive program for students, teachers, and their families. The iRead Instructional Software continually assesses children, monitors their learning, and provides individualized and appropriate instruction for each child when used on the requested chromebooks. The components of the program are letter recognition, phonemic awareness, decoding and spelling, sight words, word analysis, language and vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
In the past five years we have not had an intervention program for the primary grades.
Now, we have the program but we do not have the technology to support the program to its full potential. Your donations will allow my students to access the iRead program for the recommended 3-5 times a week. I hope that this program will help to close the achievement gap for all students before entering their grade.
