My inner-city students come from various backgrounds where English is not always their native language. We are a Title I school where our students receive 100% free breakfast and lunch. The children in my class come to school wanting to learn and work hard because school is a safe place for them. It is also one of their most favorite places to be.
My students are eager readers who love to learn and be exposed to interesting topics.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are an inspiration to me and others around them every single day.
My Project
In the past few weeks our lives have changed tremendously due to Covid-19. My school is in New Haven, CT which is not very far from New York City, a hot spot for the corona virus. Three weeks ago our school closed very quickly and now we are trying to teach from home. Unfortunately my district, as well as so many other districts, has begun to roll out a distance learning program but there is a very big problem, my students don't have the devices needed to participate in such a program. Our students' families do not have desktop computers, laptops, or iPads. We did distribute our older iPads to families but now many students are running into difficulties. Many of the apps and programs we are using will not run on the old iPads. These Chromebooks would be so helpful so that I can make sure my students don't lose what they have gained this year.
I miss my students so much and always want the best for them, I don't want them to fall behind.
Please help me help them so they can continue to learn and not fall behind in their academics.
