My Students
When you walk into my English classroom, it often looks like controlled chaos. Students work independently or in groups, or one on one with me to ensure that each master the learning standards at their own individual pace.
My students are smart and hardworking.
Our school is a low income school, with 100% of students receiving free lunch, but they don't let that deter them. In many ways, it pushes them harder. I love my students, and they come to school every day prepared to work hard and learn. Limited funding for our school, however, means it can be difficult getting students access to the technology they need to be successful in today's society. I am trying to change that.
My Project
With the 8 Chromebooks i am requesting, my students will be able to conduct research from multimedia sources (films/videos, podcasts, news reports, magazine articles) to increase their literacy and understanding of the world around them. But its more important to me that students create--create their own podcasts, blogs, surveys, videos, and websites. Because then, they become more than consumers of media, they become the producers of media themselves. These 8 Chromebooks will allow them to do this while continuing to work at their own pace.
The world needs more diverse voices.
My students have so many inspiring things to say. But they currently lack the means or know-how to get their voices out into the world in a meaningful way. This technology will help them to do that, and ultimately, make them poised for success in college and beyond.
