The sixth grade students at our school are highly motivated learners. Our students are extremely bright and enjoy class discussion. Even though our sixth grade class is located at the elementary school, our kids are considered middle schoolers. This means that they need opportunities to begin research projects.
These children are extremely self motivated, especially when the task involves anything technology related.
They are creative, very intelligent, and love learning new information. Each of our students, thrives on being challenged!
My Project
Our class is in need of chrome books so that the students will have easy access to technology for researching both Science and Geography. These chrome books will also serve as a way for students to obtain information on current events.
Throughout sixth grade, our students are expected to use a technology to complete research on both Science and Geography.
During the first semester of school, we research kinetic and potential energy for our district's Science Olympics competition. The students research roller coaster models in order to construct a roller coaster. The second semester is dedicated to several Geography research projects. Because the information on political leaders in South America in our Geography book is outdated, we complete a research project that culminates in each student completing an oral presentation using either Power Point or Sway.
In addition to research projects, our students will use the chrome books to access articles online in regards to current events. The students will use the website Time For Kids, which allows the teacher to select articles that are written on a variety of reading levels to allow all readers to be successful. The students will also use the online assessment tool to be tested over the article of the week.
