Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a low-income, Latin & Mexican American population of Chicago, I educate students that have hearts of gold. I teach in a school where the students come to school to receive an education and to be safe from the crime in their neighborhood. They support one another to be successful, work in groups, and share in each other's glory. My students are truly on the path to success. They are exceptional thinkers and have a truly inspiring work ethic.
As a member of the school and community, I do my best to support my students and provide them with the best possible experiences and learning opportunities through music.
Our school provides the students with experiences in various after-school clubs, and a fulfilling experience in the fine arts (media, art, and music). However, we are low on funds and resources. These students should have access to instruments and materials in order to achieve a true fine arts experience. I come to you with hopes to bring the best educational experiences to my students. Will you be the reason they are successful?
My Project
In the modern day music classroom, engagement and excitement are the main factors in learning. My students crave the understanding to relate their musical experiences to their other core subjects such as Mathematics and Science. My students are high level thinkers, questioning their learning and yearning to do more and learn more, however, we are limited to what tools we have in our clasroom. We need more technology, and it all starts with you!
My students are motivated to succeed and chromebooks in our class will help our SMS eagles soar!
Our classroom earned eight chromebooks to provide them with an educational experience, but sadly, eight chromebooks does not provide the best outcome in my class size of 35 students. Access to multiple chromebooks will boost engagement, allow more students to access resources for learning, as well as provide my students with the ability to research and create musical pieces based on their learning from other subjects (examples- reading a book and writing and rap song with a beat created on the chromebook, watching a scientific video and composing a song inspired by a chemical reaction using Noteflight).
Providing chromebooks to our school will not only give us technology, but you will be giving my students the learning opportunity of a lifetime through music reading, engagement, and connecting their learning in music class to all of their core studies.
