My students are wonderful young adults from very diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds who have grown up in a big city. I teach at a large urban high school where many of my students receive free and/or reduced-price lunch and come from poor, single-parent homes or foster homes.
My students are a diverse group of wonderful young adults with learning challenges.
Many of my students have various learning challenges, including Autism, ADHD, Emotional Disturbance and Processing Disorders.
My students live in a day and age when computers and technology make learning more accessible. Unfortunately many of my students do not have access to computers at home and this impacts their ability to be successful in school. I teach at a large urban high school in California where a significant number of students come from low income households and receive free and reduced lunch. These students do not have computers at home. It is very difficult to survive in high school without access to a computer. Budget cuts in California have limited schools' ability to provide technology in classrooms.
My Project
My students will use the Chromebooks to access the Internet to conduct research and type assignments and essays. They can utilize the chromebooks to study Algebra, Geometry, Biology, History, and English. Additionally they can read textbooks online and learn foreign languages. Online dictionaries can help students with vocabulary and word meanings. Chromebooks will allow students to work anywhere in the classroom or take them other classrooms if necessary.
State of the art technology in the classroom will have a huge impact on my students' access to learning.
My students have learning disabilities and lack access to computers at home. Chromebooks will level the playing field with their peers in the general school population. Access to state of the art technology will enhance their day-to-day academics and help them prepare for college and future careers by improving their technological skills.
