Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third graders are in a New York City elementary school. They are a diverse group of students who share and work wonderfully together. They live and work in an urban environment. They are energetic and excited about learning.
My students are excited about learning and enjoy using a variety of learning tools.
They are curious about the world around them and delve into learning activities with gusto. We spend lots of time outdoors and this has helped them build community while becoming passionate about nature and the environment.
My Project
I have been teaching my students Computer Science for the past two years. They are learning skills essential to their success in the future. However, I currently do not have enough devices for each of my students.
These Acer Chromebooks will be providing my students with the opportunity to develop essential computer literacy skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.
My students will be learning the basic principles of Computer Science by using Code.org and Scratch. These are highly engaging curriculums that teach students to code, debug, and to create their own projects.
We know that understanding and being able to use technology is a crucial part of learning in today's world. I want my students to be able to complete these computer-based lessons in order to expose them to the reality of Computer Science as a career choice for when they get older.
