Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school with a very diverse student body. We have many newly arrived immigrant families and well as families who have always lived in the neighborhood. It is an urban community and many of our students have few, if any opportunities, to leave the city or even the neighborhood to visit new places.
Our students' parents want the best for their children.
They want they to experience as many new things and to learn as much as possible, but they aren't always able to afford to cover the cost. We are working to find ways to be able to provide these experiences as affordably as possible.
My Project
I have been purchasing Chromebooks one by one for the last few years with the goal of having one device per student during class. Just when I think I might reach that goal, I get a bunch of new students. I have gotten 5 students who have recently arrived from other countries in the last week. I can keep up.
Naturally, each new student is on a different level in English.
By using the Chromebooks, I am able to tailor instruction for every individual student so they can learn English more quickly. The faster they can learn English, the more easily they will be able to participate in other classroom activities.
