Our fifth grade class is a dynamic environment that fosters inquiry based learning. We believe that all kids should have equal opportunities to explore and create rich academic experiences. In order to make this a really, all students need to have access to the world of technology throughout each school day.
We have a group of 30 fifth grade students in my public school classroom in the heart of Brooklyn.
Our classroom is filled with various cultures and life experiences due to students with families from around the world. In turn empathy and understanding are naturally embedded in our classroom communities. Students are the center of our classroom communities. We encourage them to guide their own learning and become thinkers that question the world around them.
My Project
In our class community, we value technology and the opportunities it provides in enhancing our learning and curiosities. Currently our public school has 5 fifth grade classes and 130 fifth graders that share 30 Chromebooks. This means that 130 students only have the chance to use a computer for one 45 minute period each day. We believe, in 2018, that each child should have access to a computer throughout the entire school day. The goal of this project is to provide all 30 students in our class with a Chromebook computer to use as needed, in all content areas, everyday. Unfortunately, we are restricted in the quantity of Chromebooks we are permitted to ask for at this time. We hope to acquire 10 from this project and 10 more in the near future.
