My students are sixth graders in a rural community. About 50 percent of the children in our school are from low-income families. For many of my students, access to technology outside of school is very limited. Also, due to the limited school funds available, access to reliable technology even within the school is limited as well.
My students love technology and being creative, and I try to make opportunities for these students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media.
"There can be infinite uses of the computer and the new age technology, but if teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails."-Nancy Kassebaum. Allowing me the ability to keep technology in my classroom will continue to create new learning opportunities.
My Project
A quote by Heidi Hayes-Jacobs said, "Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event." There is so much great information and software applications that can only be accessed through the Internet. Having devices such as these Chromebooks will allow me to begin to truly integrate technology with instruction and learning. These resources will help students research and understand the world they live in. The type of interactive learning that takes place on the Internet make it one of the best places to learn. It will help prepare my students with the skills they need for college and for a good job in the future.
