My Students

My children live in the heart of a large city. They are literally surrounded by opportunities, and I hope to give them the keys to open up doors - with your help!

My sixth graders are at a critical place in their young lives, embarking on the journey of discovering what makes each one of them truly special, and I can't wait to see what impact they will have on the world around them.

The fast pace at which technology develops these days demands that we keep up, so that these students have a fighting chance to make it in the world.

My Project

This is the 21st century, and CCSS writing standards include that students will use word processing to publish their writing--but the district provides us with no computers in the classroom! My students live in an inner-city community, and have very limited access to computers at home. Most of their parents are not familiar with word processing, so they need to learn it at school.

Having Chromebooks in the classroom has enabled me to introduce the students to Google docs, which has been fantastic, but we only have 11 devices for 30 students.

It would be great if we could have at least one Chromebook for each pair of students, so I've written this project and another similar one to help us reach that goal. They also use the Chromebooks to access engaging math programs, including Khan Academy and STmath; so we will get a lot of use out of them.
