Our middle school is a public school, that serves a diverse population of approximately 1,100 students in 6th-8th grade. The urban midtown location brings together a wide range of socio-economic, racial and cultural backgrounds. We have students at all performance levels, necessitating differentiated instruction — as well as a large number of students served by Special Ed. Despite having the largest number of students living in transitional housing of any middle school within our system, we have lost Title 1 funding. This is a significant financial loss to the school’s operating budget, making it more difficult to fund even the most basic resources like copy paper, ink and school supplies. However, even with all of our challenges, our dedicated staff and hardworking students consistently produce outstanding work, in both academics and in extracurricular activities. We are proud to be the highest scoring middle school in our system.
My social studies classroom is a safe and loving environment that challenges each student at their level.
They are challenged to think on their own and share their perspectives. They are taught to listen to various viewpoints and help each other discover new things.
My students will be able to dig deeper into their content, as well as connect with other students throughout the whole world. In addition, with more technology they will be able to refine their research skills.
Access to these Chromebooks will help meet the needs of diverse students and various needs.
Many students lack technology at home and this will help the students keep up with the constantly advancing technology world. Other students are ready for more challenging Social Studies activities and technology will allow them to go beyond the textbook. Last, students will be able to follow current patterns daily occurring in Social Studies.
Having Chromebooks in my classroom will allow us to have stations. Students will be able to research other topics as we incorporate hands-on simulations.
