Upon entering our classroom, you will notice students who are welcoming, actively engaged, and hard-working. The students in my class have a cognitive impairment. Each day my students have to overcome challenges and obstacles related to their disability.
Despite their disability, my students are determined to achieve academic and social success.
My students have learned how to advocate for themselves and have inquired about how to integrate more with the general education students. Not a day goes by where I have not felt joy or pride in the progress my students have made.
My Project
My students need Chromebooks to help support their academic and communication needs. Often times, students with cognitive impairments struggle to effectively demonstrate their understanding of a concept or skill taught. With the use of technology, my students can excel and demonstrate various levels of cognitive thinking.
Through the use of Chromebooks, we will be able to download educational apps, math games, and reading games.
My students will also be able to practice typing their writing. We have been utilizing a writing curriculum and it would be great to see their hard work in print. Our day is organized with the students rotating through reading, writing, spelling, and math workshop centers. Google Chromebooks would help groups more effectively complete their educational tasks.
Students who are engaged in a lesson or activity are much more likely to retain information and be able to apply what they've learned in real world situations. My long term goal is to help my students become independent thinkers and prepare them to be productive members of our constant changing society.
