In this rapidly changing digital world, my class is eager to keep up with the new technology. My class is encouraged to practice communication, collaboration, creativity, as well as critical thinking. Chromebooks allow us to utilize these skills while completing assignments quicker and with ease.
I teach a 5/6, self-contained gifted and talented class, housed in a neighborhood school.
My students are energetic and eager to learn. They are highly creative and love collaborative learning projects. We love incorporating art, music, and movement into our daily lessons. It is hard to believe the energy level can get any higher in our classroom, but without a doubt, technology tends to increase the excitement in the room. The students are aware of real-world issues. As a matter of fact, one goal of ours is to reduce paper waste. With efforts to reduce paper copying and waste, Google has become a popular name in our classroom. As we are learning to share and save documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and more in the cloud, the amount of paper work is drastically reducing, helping us to create a more earth-friendly environment.
My Project
Chromebooks allow students to connect with peers and teachers via the Internet. We are able to practice 21st Century skills using the digital notebooks; communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Students are able work on daily assignments and collaborative learning projects without using paper. All information can be saved in the cloud, reducing desk disorganization. I love having the ability to comment on writing assignments from school or home, allowing for quicker feedback. Students enjoy building slide shows and other projects via Google. It seems as though families are busier than ever! The Chromebooks will make it easier for students to work together, without having to physically meet.
At this time, we are sharing 40 Chromebooks among 200 students.
The time with the notebooks is limited. My class goal is to increase the number of digital resources available. Imagine the amount of work the students can accomplish if each child had their own device!
