Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is unique. I have a reduced class size model with 12 students. Each students has unique learning needs that require specific interventions. My students are wonderful and we function like a family, supporting and encouraging each other along the way of our individual and class goals.
Our schools is one of the largest in the county with over 1,100 students.
We are a Title 1 school and the majority of my students live at poverty level or below.
The students in my room are culturally diverse and more than 75% of them speak English as their second language. I have reduced class size model, in which I serve as their ESOL, early intervention and general education teacher. In order to better meet the specific needs of my students my classroom runs in a small groups to cover multiple learning styles. I work hard to meet their needs on so many levels and would love to give my students the opportunity to experience things they otherwise might not have available to them.
My Project
Chromebooks will bring endless opportunities for my students to increase their skills. I plan for the Chromebooks to be used daily in their literacy rotations, centers, small groups, and independent practice. I plan on installing apps for my students to practice their specific needs, as well as monitor their progress and extend their learning not only in literacy, but in math as well. The Chromebooks will assist in my goal to integrate all subjects and make their learning more meaningful.
I have asked for some paperback chapter books at various levels to help engage them in reading within the classroom. I want my students to be excited about reading books that interest them. We will use these books to improve our basic reading skills and discuss story elements, use them in literature circles and create projects.
Technology is everywhere!
Most of my students do not have access to technology at home, meaning school is the only place they would be given this opportunity to grow in this way. I want to give my students all that I can and further their education. This opportunity will open doors for them they never knew existed.
